Andrej Kobal (born 1981) is a Slovenian composer, intermedia artist, and developer of music software tools. His practice connects contemporary
composition, sound design, interactive audiovisual installations, and the development of custom instruments in Max/MSP. He focuses on integrating musical expression with spatial and gestural dimensions of performance.
He is the author of the award-winning projects GranuRise and seqMPEror, both internationally recognized for their innovative approaches to electronic music and sound interaction. His works explore the boundaries between instrument design, composition, and live performance.
Kobal’s research and performances have been presented at leading international institutions and festivals, including Harvard University,
Radcliffe Institute, MASS MoCA, Cycling ’74 Expo, Vienna Acousmatic Project, Conservatorio Tartini and Benedetto Marcello, Music Hackspace
London, ADC (Audio Developer Conference, London), and MOTA – Museum of Transitory Art (Ljubljana). His work has appeared at SynthFest
UK, Music China (Shanghai), Visiones Sonoras (Mexico), perAspera (Bologna), Sonica, Pixxelpoint, Jazz Cerkno, Sajeta, and many other festivals
of sound and media art.
In theatre, he collaborates with institutions such as the Mestno gledališče ljubljansko (MGL), AGRFT, and Cankarjev dom, creating original music, spatial sound design, and interactive technical systems. His installations and concert works often combine digital and acoustic performance, merging compositional structure with improvisation and technology.
