Joan Bagés i Rubí

Joan Bagés i Rubí (Lleida, 1977) is a pianist, sound artist, and composer. With a background in classical training and advanced studies in digital arts and electroacoustic music, his work blends tradition and technology across multiple disciplines.
He earned a Piano Teaching Degree from the Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona, a BA in Pedagogy from the UAB, and a Master's in Digital Arts – Music from UPF. He later moved to Paris to pursue advanced studies, obtaining a DEA and PhD in “Aesthetics, Science and Technology of the Arts – Music” at Paris 8 University under Anne Sedes.
Joan studied composition and interactive music systems with renowned composers such as Horacio Vaggione, José Manuel López López, Anne Sedes, Daniel d'Adamo, Philippe Leroux, Rebecca Saunders, among others. He completed further specialization at institutions including IRCAM and several conservatories across France, receiving degrees in both Electroacoustic and Instrumental Composition.
His works have been commissioned and supported by institutions such as the Generalitat de Catalunya, SACEM, INAEM-CDMC, and Fundación Phonos, and have been performed internationally, receiving recognition in various competitions.
He is currently Artistic Director of Morphosis Ensemble (Barcelona), resident composer for IPAC (France), professor of Electroacoustic Composition at ESMUC’s Master's program, and teaches piano, harmony, and music theory at the Flix School of Music. Joan is a member of the Catalan Association of Composers, AMEE (Electroacoustic Music Association of Spain), and Amics del Jazz de la Ribera d’Ebre.
