What will happen in this Episode?

Christine Groult

Christine Groult composes music for concerts, theatre, choreographies, and documentaries. Her work proceeds from an attempt to express emotional realities. She is particularly interested in the poetic potential of sounds (recordings and their transformations) and in novel dramatic sound effects.

Electroacoustic music is her mode of expression. As the KM music group (Kairos Music) in Pantin writes: »This form of composition evolves an indoors sonorous subject matter which creates meaningful images with a connective capacity. She is on the same wave length as the plastic arts and the way they treat matter and space.«

COMPOSITIONS — Christine Groult

Si je les écoutais… , 18’, 2008
to Rivka Crémisi

Commissioned by the state, created at Radio-France as part of the GRM multiphonic season 2007/2008, 50 years of the GRM.

The composition was inspired by the figure of
the Angel in the Kabbalah. Christine Groult refers to “The Shattering of the
Vessels” – a part of the kabballah.

“The image of the high priest, the Cohen, who
alone can enter the Ark of the Covenant which was in the holy of holies of the
desert temple. This chest, which contained the tables of the law, was covered
with a large lid of pure gold, at its two ends two cherubs. They spread their
wings and turn their faces towards each other. Through these wings, the Cohen
seems to hear a word. What is being whispered to him in the hollow of his ears?”

Eaux mêlées, 29’, 2021
Commission/residency of Logelloù, center of exploration and creation in Penvénan located in the Côtes-d'Armor. Creation in September 2021 on the remarkable site of Yaudet on the edge of the estuary of the Léguer.

Composed during lockdown.

How can we restore this attention to what
exists and question its mystery so that it amazes us? A meditative journey
impregnated with the smell of the estuary, the place where rivers meet the sea, and its mixed waters, that of the mud, of the primordial matter.

The intimate union of land and sea characterizes the atmosphere of the Armor coast in Brittany. It is impossible to distinguish clearlý the boundary between land and sea, between solid and fluid elements. Four paintings in one movement: 1- Granite cliffs cut by small coves of fine sand | 2- Dance of sandpipers in the waves | 3- Flocculation of the Mud | 4- Birds in the storm

With sounds recorded with Noëlle Deffontaines (dancer), Benjamin Dousteyssier (saxophone), Lê Quan Ninh (percussion)) and sounds of nature by Marc Namblard (audio naturalist).
